I’ve been on antidepressants for over a year and it hasn’t helped me at all. I still feel really sad and struggle a lot. On top of that, I’ve gained 20 pounds resulting in an eating disorder. All I did today was lay in bed and cry
I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time right now. Medications sometimes don't work the same for everyone or sometimes need to be adjusted. Talk to your prescribing doctor and let them know what is going on and see if there is something they would recommend for you to do. They may up your dosage or even switch medications if they feel like something else might work better for you. Meds to have side effects sometimes, but those can sometimes be treated as well. Aside from your meds are you talking to a professional about what you're going through? Someone who can treat an ED and depression? If you're not that would be something worth doing. Disordered eating, depending on how severe it is may require specialized treatment so you may want to seek out a therapist that specializes in Disordered Eating. Keep trying and if you would like to discuss this further feel free to call or chat.
antidepressants are a difficult thing to deal with especially if they’re not working. you should talk to your psychiatrist about it but just know that with depression, you’re gonna be sad more than most and it’s okay to cry or get upset. One thing that really helps is thinking through the situation and deciding weather it’s worth getting as upset about it as you are. Eating disorders are a mental issue as much as they are physical making it very difficult to get over, but not eating is only hurting you mentally, you’re gonna get better. the fact that you want to get better tells me that you will and i’m so proud of you for reaching out.
I'm really sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. It sounds like you're going through an incredibly difficult time, and it's understandable to feel overwhelmed when things seem so heavy.
Antidepressants can affect everyone differently, and it's not uncommon for people to feel like they're not seeing the results they hoped for. Have you had a chance to talk to your doctor or mental health professional about how you’re feeling? They might be able to adjust your treatment plan or suggest other options that could be more effective for you.
As for the feelings around your weight and eating habits, it’s important to approach these feelings with compassion for yourself. Eating disorders can be complex, and getting support from a professional who specializes in this area might be really beneficial.
Remember, it’s okay to seek help, and you don’t have to go through this alone. Taking small steps, like reaching out to someone you trust or seeking professional guidance, can be a good start. You deserve support and a way to work through what you're feeling.
This is a safe space to share what's on your mind and to get support from real people.
