MENTAL HEALTH
Too scared to get a real diagnosis

I don't like self diagnosing myself because when I see someone who got a real diagnosis I feel bad for them since things like ADHD and depression are being used more as personality traits than what they should be used for. I'm too scared to ask for a real diagnosis since I feel like there just gonna give me a corny "You can make it kid! Stay strong!" And leave me with nothing. This is also one of the things that fueled my anxiety in the first place.

Self-diagnosing can be harmful because it can lead to misinterpretations, delayed or inappropriate treatment, and potentially worsen a condition, especially when relying on unreliable sources like social media or the internet.

I know that reaching out for professional help can feel scary, but it could really help put your mind at ease.

Consider talking to a therapist who can assist you in navigating your feelings. You can also reach out to 2NDFLOOR to talk about how you are feeling.

Happy Friend

It's completely valid to feel apprehensive about seeking a diagnosis, especially when you’re concerned about how mental health conditions are perceived in society. You're right that conditions like ADHD and depression can sometimes be misunderstood or trivialized, which can add to the stigma. Remember, wanting a professional opinion is a brave step and shows that you care about your mental health.

It’s understandable to fear a dismissive response, but many mental health professionals are trained to listen and provide support tailored to your experiences. A good therapist or counselor will take the time to understand your feelings and help you explore your concerns without judgment. If you feel overwhelmed, consider bringing someone you trust with you to the appointment for support.

It's important to prioritize your mental well-being and to seek the help you deserve. You deserve to feel heard and understood, and taking that step can be the beginning of a more positive journey. Remember, it’s okay to take your time and find a professional who makes you feel comfortable. You’re not alone in this, and there are people who want to help you in a meaningful way.

This is a safe space to share what's on your mind and to get support from real people.
