Hey so me and my BF are still in high school and have been together for 11 months. We have a really good relationship. And I am so in love with him. But recently we have both have had thoughts of cheating… neither of us acted on them and since I am going to California for college while he stays in New Jersey. It is hard…and also I still wanna spend the rest of my life with him. I am certain, but he is less so now. He is also struggling mentally. And I am the first real relationship he had. While I have been in many. We both still love and care for each other we just don’t know what to do.
It sounds like both of you are able to be really honest and vulnerable with one another. Those communication skills will be a big help in navigating this transition together. Long distance relationships are hard but not impossible. You have some time until the Fall semester begins to decide what you'd like to do. It may be that the two of you would like to have the freedom to explore new activities and connections next year, and that's totally okay. There may be some growing pains if you continue your relationship in California - that's to be expected. The key piece will be giving each other grace and understanding throughout the process while prioritizing honest communication.
